Subj: "scam sewing machines" Date: 99-01-09 09:51:49 EST From: kitebus@richmond.infi.net (Terry Murray) Greetings, I just finished reading your site and letters, and wanted to tell you of my experience. Im a 43 year old man, that prior to purchasing my machine had no experience sewing. In about 1996 there was an ad in the paper much like the one you spoke of. I went and was very suspicious. I asked if they had a store, they did and I was given an 800 number to the store in New Jersey.I went to the hotel lobby and called right then.I was told by the person that they sold and provided service for many sewing machines. I went back in to the demo area and watched. I even took samples of the kinds of materials I would be sewing on,like 3.9oz dacron, rip stop polyester, and sunbrella fabric. the gentleman took my samples and showed me many stitches even folding the sunbrella and sewing thru 6 layers. I bought the machine, took it home and bumbled my way thru learning which needles work with what thread ,best tension and so forth. I make sport kites, also duffle bags, mend clothes for my wife and have started making vests. I use polyester sail makers thread, size v30 and v46. Don't like any of the cotton threads. I use most any sharp size 14 needle. My machine is a "Tailor" cost 175.00 and I could not be any happier with it. I wasted many miles of thread during my learning. Even broke the feed plate and very quickly got a replacement part from the 800 number given me at the time of sale. After learning where to put oil and grease I have every reason to believe that Ill get a lifetime of service from it. I wish the company would come back because I want to buy the free arm model. Three of my friends also bought machines that day and all are satisfied like I am.
