Subj: Necchi "One Day Sale" Date: 99-10-13 11:06:25 EDT From: pjlaird@gte.net (Patti & Brian Laird) When I saw your letter from Amy on her Necchi Disaster, I was pleased that I made the decision last night that I did.
I have been sewing since I was in grade school but I have never used a machine newer than a early 1970 zig zag machine. The only machine I have now is a singer 221, which doesn't even have zig zag. For the last month I have researching machines, trying to familiarize myself their newer features, looking for durability and keeping in mind that I only sew occasionally.
Yesterday a "One day only" sale on Necchi machines was held in a local hotel. I also knew that the advertised special would probably not be what I was looking for. I did find one a couple steps up the ladder that seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I almost bought it but the salesman became rude, beginning with comments like "procrastinators always have a hard time with one day sales." I realize that this comment was meant to frustrate me into making a quick purchase, but I had just seen these machines for the first time and I had only been in the room 15 minutes. The salesman became more rude in the next 10 minutes making more personal comments, some about my two month old child asleep in his carrier. I told the salesman he didn't need to be so rude and he exploded and swore at me. Apparently it was his business and he would run it any ### way he pleased (must have been a long day for him). At this point I wouldn't have bought anything from the man, told him so and left.
I know that the "One day sale" is every week in a different location. Common sense tells me that if he can sell the machine at that price,(even if only one day a week) so can a lot of other people. I still don't know if this a good machine or not, but if I decide I want one, I see that there a lot of them available - many are even priced lower!
For now I am back to shopping.
