QuiltPro Quilting Design Software

Linda Breshear's QuiltPro page. Your online representative. The QuiltPro home page. Fabric libraries and all the help you could wish for. QuiltPro Zipped demo 1 the old version. QuiltPro Zipped demo 2 the newest version.

Notes on the new demo:It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get this thing running. I didn't expect the file (named qpdemo.exe) to be zipped. Sorry, but when a file is zipped the convention is to call it "Filename.zip". The .exe extension means it's supposed to self-extract, but for some reason mine didn't. A simple "double-click" on the item in File Manager produced an error message telling me the file had to be unzipped first. So I popped into DOS to use PKunzip and back to Windows to run the demo. (I don't run WinZip). Found the "readme" file, which tells you how to stop the demo, but not how to get it running... I tried the old "double-click" again from File Manager on the "qpdemo.exe" line item, and Voila! it initiated setup. Maybe this is obvious to some experienced computer users, but my guess is about 80% of you are going to be confused...
This version of the demo runs like a movie, with neat little pop-up boxes that explain the program features and demonstrate the steps you'd take to design a quilt block. The demo seems to run a little fast, unless you read quickly, or if this is your first exposure to computers, you may get left behind during the explanations. Several of the screens offer you the option of repeating the lesson, and you can run the demo as many times as you need to. At one point I moved my mouse and the screen refresh failed until the end of that segment. By choosing the "repeat" option I was able to view the segment again, but there is the very real chance this will cause one of your machines to crash instead. (This is the demo, now, and I expect the real program doesn't have this problem since it isn't a movie.)
Features of this software include a pattern library for blocks, borders, and foundation piecing. The fabric pattern options included are a little fake looking, but if you have the equipment you can add scans of your own fabric and use them instead. Quiltpro also offers scanned fabric collections from it's web page.
Unlike the older demo, you cannot "use" this version, it only runs the explanatory movie. This demo needs about 2.5 MB of space on your hard drive, and since it doesn't make any changes to your system files, should be easy to uninstall.
