Electric Quilt is best known for two features: the fabric library of modern designer fabrics, including regular updates as new collections are produced, and the Blockbase library of patterns. You can use the fabrics to simulate your quilt block with the real fabrics available to you from your quilt store, not just a solid color or a computer-generated pattern.

Blockbase is separate computer product from The Electric Quilt company. With it you can view and color thousands of traditional patterns, based on the collection gathered by Barbara Brackman in her Encylopedia of Pieced Blocks. If you have EQ you can import the drawings and use them in EQ to design a quilt. The blocks can also be exported as clip art.

  • Notes on the demo:

This is a demo of the older version of Electric Quilt, circa 1991, back when it was okay to run a program in DOS and we lived happily with grey and white on a black screen. It really does not do justice to the current version, which is fully functional under Windows and has all the neat colored buttons and easy-to-use features we are familiar with. Nontheless, it is the only demo available. To get an idea of how the current version looks and feels, I suggest you browse through the Electric Quilt web site (above). They do a good job of explaining the functions and features, and provide links to other reviews (all positive, of course) for their product.
