Miniature Furniture

Welcome to another one of my hobbies, building miniature scale houses and furniture.

These three pieces I made from plans in The Home Miniaturist magazine. The cradle is made according to the pattern. I used 1/4" wood trim to make the corner posts, and I carved the balls by hand. For the table I used pre-packaged wooden "porch railing" for the legs, and cut the rest of the pieces from basswood. Both of these pieces were stained and sealed. The chair was made from a combination of basswood, toothpicks, and balsa (which I do not recommend you do). I made it from scraps to test the pattern, and wasn't expecting it to come out so nice. I painted and distressed this piece with brown and black acrylic hobby paint, since balsa doesn't take stain well. It has been squashed twice, but manages to look okay once it's glued back together.

These three pieces are constructed from kits by House of Miniatures. From left to right the kits are: #40024 Chippendale Lowboy; #40018 Tall Case Clock; and #40038 Queen Anne table. Both tables are finished with the HoM stains and sealers provided in the kits. The clock was painted with black acrylic hobby paint (the stuff that comes in the tiny bottles) and waxed to give a "laquered" look. I may add some gold detailing if I can find the right product to do it with.
