The Iron Dress

And the Winners Are...

November 1

Quoted from the Judge's official announcement:

My Lords and My Ladies, we have our winners. It was a hard choice for the judges to make. The entries were so good, so intricate, so MANY, that it was hard to decide. But after a flurry of emails, and a thumb-wrestling contest, we have our winners.

First off, I would like to thank everyone that participated, whether you finished or not. This was a tough challenge, with exacting requirements, and as we saw, real life interferes with our pleasure far to often. So if you were not able to finish, do not think of this as a failure. You now have a head start on that outfit you keep saying you will make "one of these days". Now go and finish it!

Secondly, I have 2 Honorable Mentions. While they do not get any "prize" other than the adulation of the masses (and you guys had better adulate!) They are worthy of mention. So to Justin and Laurie come the Nod of Approval from the Judges. Teddy said, "Justin and Laurie both did well but went for less-flashy looks from the start" so even though you don't stand out like sparkles in the sky you both did wonderfully and should be proud of yourselves. Bravo!

So, now to the Second Place Prize. This goes to a woman who just started making Elizabethan clothing, and has done spectacularly. And also her modesty is amazing for I had to threaten her to take the Prize! So a $30 certificate to Amazon, along with the awe of the masses, goes to Chris Catalfamo, for her Vecellio inspired dress. Well done!

Now for First Place. You don't know what a job this was. It was to hard to just pick one. So it is hereby declared that the Second Iron Dress is a TIE! The Winners are....

(Drum roll please)

(Don't you hate how I'm drawing this out?)

(You know, I am available for parties....)

Ok, Ok, the winners are....

PHOENIX TWITCHES AND RED DAWN!

These two ladies had the judges in a tizzy. They are both so good, with attention to detail and fit, and lots and lots of handwork that makes a masterpiece. Mary Lou said about them;

"Phoenix twitches- I love the combination of all the pieces that they coordinate so well. The attention to detail, the blackwork, the sleeves on the Surcoat and the pearls on the gown. Red Dawn- Again I am a lover of coordination and attention paid to detail results in a great look in my opinion. The placement of the design in the back of the bodice, the girdle and the position of the trim stand out so strongly on this gown."

Teddy explained his choices thusly:

Reasons for my choices of winners. Dawn's is the most spectacular overall look, fit and detail in what she's done, adapting the pattern to a different country's style and good workmanship, Chris and Phoenix have similarly made adaptations and carried them out well. Chris's being the more visual impressive of the two while Phoenix's has the advantage of being mostly hand-sewn.

So you can see what a challenge the judges had before them. But both Phoenix and Dawn will get a $60 certificate to the fabric store of their choosing, and bragging rights until we once again gather in the fabric closet to make....
